This Week on the Blog

This past week saw the Knicks and Rangers lose some they shouldn't have, as well as Coach McAdoo starting to assemble his staff.  Thankfully, the Yanks did nothing and still have the #19 pick in the draft.  What can we expect this week?

Rangers:  The Rangers have to keep playing better, and decide whether or not they'll be buyers, sellers or both at the trade deadline.  This is Gorton's first with GM control, and it will be a huge relief if he either can find more picks, or refrains throwing future 1's in with any deal he makes.

Knicks: Now Carmelo's left knee is acting up.   And that's on top of their back to back no-shows on Friday and Saturday.  A week or so ago, I was thinking playoffs, but now I'm thinking getting a new coach is the best next step, as making the playoffs would probably make it harder to switch coaches.

Giants:  Feels like McAdoo is waiting on some DL coach whose team is still in the playoffs. Not only have the Giants not hired a DL coach, but no names have even been linked with the job opening.  Once that's done, it appears McAdoo will anounce them all at once.   Meanwhile, McAdoo and his growing staff have been self scouting and reviewing the Giants 2015 season.  Thus they have stronger stomachs than I do.

Yanks: This is the time of year when a lot of the prospects start heading to Tampa for training and instruction.  They still might trade for a starter, but it's seeming less and less likely, and they have protected their pick, so that's good.

I hope the snow isn't ruining any of your lives and wish you each a great week!

Agreed Buz. My hope now is The remaining 4 FAs that require a comp pick sign with teams that move our pick up the board.

It has to be a concern that because the Yankees have money coming off the books next year, they may spend even if there aren't worthwhile targets for the money:

Strasburg will be the guy they will look at along with perhaps Cespedes.

The more I read about Mateo the more I realize how dumb it would've been (or would be) to trade him.

I wouldn't want to trade him eithere, but I'm not sure at all about his on base skills.

Also, I assume Thanasis is up for defense and Jimmer is probably annoyed.

I will be honest. I want Headley to suck; I want Castro at third, and I want Refs at second.

This is sort of interesting whether or not it is accurate:

It looks like they lucked out on any rumored Reyes trade, and I am assuming that the inquiry was made before Reyes beat the shit out of his wife.

I hate the mindset of this type of trade even if Reyes never beat the shit out of wife. He's expensive and always hurt.

Anything not to give Refs a shot, I guess. Too bad they forgot how bad Jeter has been defensively, almost his entire career, and he still is a first ballot HoF.

Reyes on the Yankees would have been such a major culture clash that I doubt it was a serious possibility. His hot dog antics and sporadic hustle would not go down well with Joe G, no matter what Joe G's other failings are. It's not insignificant that the Jays took off after they got rid of Reyes (granted with Tulo coming the other way plus adding Price but I wouldn't be surprised if the Jays' management viewed that whole transaction as plus-plus-plus).

The only way I would have considered Reyes is if they took two much longer contract: Ellsbury and Headley, but they wouldn't have.

I won't comment on that until there's an arrest.

Logically, it would make no sense to do so at a high end Mahattan venue that has high tech surveillance everywhere, so I'm hopeful that the allegations are false.
