Cash: Severino's Next Start Will Be for The MLB Yanks

So the youth movement may finally be on track.   Brian Cashman has said RHP Luis Severino will make his next start in the bigs.  That could be as soon as Monday or Tuesday.  If all goes well, and if he does have about 50 innings left, that could turn into 9-10 starts.  Or it could get into one of those, all hands on deck situations, which we've seen at times and he could be up for good. We'll see, and we'll be looking for more call ups.

UPDATE: Cash says Severino has no innings limit.  They've been getting him ready for this.  Perhaps he'll be our ace in the hole.

NEW UPDATE:  Severino Will Start Wednesday.

Great, what about Mitchell?

Heyman is reporting that they would give up Mateo and take salary, which would have sucked at every level, if true.

He can report whatever he wants to, but if that was really offered the trade would have happened.

No innings limit is a good sign. Tired of babying these pitchers when it doesn't do any good.

I still think Mitchell is starting Saturday.

This is where having a strong and deep bullpen helps. What will be critical is having at several bullpen arms that can go effectively for multiple innings.

That's the thing about CC that really can't be tolerated. Not only does he suck, but he is killing the pen.

So at some point, sunk cost have to be realized.

Yeah, if this team is serious about winning, then CC has to become the longman at some point.

Why hasn't Refsnyder been called up to play 2B yet?

Bob,

Like I said before, Heyman can write that till the cows come home, but if that had been offered, there would have been a deal.

Also, not sure when Refs comes back up. He had a rough week, as did a few of the prospects, and as happens every year around the deadline.

Might be waiting until the team gets back to NY.

I don't want to believe that about Kimbrel/Gyorko.

Cashman hedged on Mateo's availability

Andrew Bailey looks like he is finally recovered from his shoulder problems and was recently promoted to AAA on thursday.

Could be another weapon out of the bullpen

If you believe reports. Personally, I'm with Phil -- if he were available, Kimbrel would be a Yankee.

Phil -- Do you think Refs' rough week may have been caused by trade deadline jitters? He had that similar spell at the beginning of the season and then seemed to get over it.

Yes, I do. I see it every year from prospects.

Lawyer brought up a good point in a previous thread: How much of a difference must it have made for Didi to know his job was safe despite the inevitable early mistakes?

That needs to be the attitude with all the young guys, Refsnyder included.

• Who did Brian Cashman consider truly untouchable in trade talks? “Severino, Judge, Bird, and obviously in most cases, Mateo,” Cashman said. That seemed to be his way of confirming, without really confirming, that Jorge Mateo was on the table in talks about Craig Kimbrel.

That's pretty clear. He was more interested in protecting near ML ready prospects. That is not unreasonable.

Personally, I was against Kimbrel because it is skewed roster construction, and my focus is young impact offense.

Anyway, I give them credit because ultimately nothing bad was done.

If it was just for Kimbrel, that's a monumentally dumb hypothetical move.

I wouldn't have been opposed to adding another super destroyer relief ace, I'm just not sure we don't already have a few brewing including Shrever and others. I do like my teams to be overwhelming wherever they can be - so if reasonable deal could have been struck form Kimbrel or the Cuban, I would have been happy. But the prices were inflated by the desperate buyers this week.
