Knicks Will Pick 4th

The NBA once again tried to distance themselves from their alleged fixing of the lottery in the Knicks favor by awarding them the #4 pick in this year's lottery.  First of all, there is no transparency in this process, and thus I will never trust it.  Second, we're still gonna get a great player.  My hope is that it's D'Angelo Russell, but it could just as well be Emmanuel Mudiay.  They're still gonna need a lot more size.   Btw, the 76ers just got the #3 pick, and they're supposedly hell bent on Russell.  So we're getting the Congo Kid or trading the pick.  We need to spend all that cap room on skilled bigs.

I guess you make your own luck, I expect the Knicks to trade this down/away. I seriously can't see myself wasting time/money on the Knicks based on their horrible ownership/decisions/Isiah T

If it wasn't fixed, it was all the result of win one hideously stupid win v. Atlanta.

Mudiay could be great, though. And we could spend all the money on big guys. It'll be a matter of finding the right.

What the fuck?

@HerringWSJ: Mills says the free-agency pool, and who Knicks think they'll be able to get there, will factor heavily into how the team handles the draft

More shit
@HerringWSJ: Mills: "We're going to be open to a lot of things" in terms of how we handle the pick and whether it gets traded

(Thank God I'm not a Knicks fan.)

I lived and died with them as a kid, now, there's not much fandom left.

Phil,

Not a fan of Winslow?

Dan,

I like him, but 5th at most, and also, he plays Carmelo's position. So I want to get a strong 5 before working on quality depth.

I don't even think I would spend a lot of money on free agency this off-season. I would saved for next season. But they made a mistake with Melo they're going to make a series of mistakes to try to erase it

@Schmeelk: The idiocy of Steve Mills quotes about pick being complimentary to Melo/FA enrages me. Most valuable asset team has. http://t.co/vSndFboLMR

This is probably the worst scenario for the Knicks. Philly will go for a guard, but the Lakers and T-Wolves almost certainly will draft a big.

If I am the Knicks, maybe a trade down to Orlando for their pick and some other asset. Then draft W.C. Stein. Defensively, he is ready. He has a jumper from about 12 feet, but it is not consistent. But from the defensive standpoint, and rebounding, he is ready.

Also, I have seen a few Kentucky games this year. W.C. Stein can guard any position on the floor. He has the lateral quickness to stick with a PG, and the height to handle the bigs.

I don't like Cauley-Stein for the Knicks. Not enough sand in his pants for what the Knicks are, and the Knicks don't have the talent base to add a guy like him, I want them to stay at 4 and take whichever guy is left from the top 4.

At 6:48 AM, Blogger Lawyer in NJ said...

That is what smart people would do. They are not smart.

They don't have the players to run the triangle and if they try to get them, as I expect, they will pay the price in net talent.

Knicks need that defensive grit. Almost no one on the roster can stop their man on the defensive end. A guy like W.C. Stein makes all the sense in the world, but not at the #4 pick.

Trade down, get a lid-lottery pick, and bring back another asset (Maybe a deal with Orlando to sign & trade Harris to NY. That will prevent a matching offer sheet for the restricted FA).

I'd rather have Mundiay than a tweener transistion big who cannot play who his back to the basket and will get battered by the true bigs he'll be asked to defend. No diggity on WC-S.

I think the Knicks getting #4 may actually work out, the draft is always a crap shoot. There are 4 players who are considered the cream of the crop. If the Knicks choose who they want out of all 4 you know the wrong choice will be made. If they take whoever is left, there is no pressure as they really are just forced to take whoever is left. I think one of the G's could end up being the best players from this draft.

I think to say it's a crapshoot understates the benefits of having the first choice. Otherwise, you could have bots make the pick.

But I agree that at this point, the best thing that can happen is taking the BPA at 4.

The available signs, however, suggest there is agenda that may supercede taking the layup.

Francesa has an interesting take, speculating that Minn takes Towns, Lakers take a PG.

Against any trade of the Knicks' pick.

I expressed wanting the Knicks to draft Mudiay earlier in the year, so I'm not too upset.

It does suck though but it's all Dolan's fault. He brought bad karma back to MSG by hiring Isiah to run the Liberty.

When in doubt, blame Dolan.

Lawyer;

I disagree with Francesa here. In my opinion, Lakers know they are getting back their #1 pick from last year, who got hurt in training camp and missed the year. Therefore, they go heavy after Love, and try and pry him away from Cleveland. This gives them Kobe, Love, a solid Power Forward with the kid from last year. Only missing a center and point guard.

Therefore, they draft Okafor (or Towns) and try to sign Riondo as a free agent.

Presto!! Instant star power starting lineup. And a probable 6-8 seed next year in the West, at worst.

He views Okafor as a 4.

The path to the NBA, or even major CBB success, can be impossible for some to overcome:

Okafor is not a 4. His game is down low. He will dominate the post in the NBA. Yes, he has a jumper, and a pretty good one, but that is mainly used to enhance his low-post game.

The only way Okafor is a 4, is if Bargnani is the 5. A big man who shoots long-range jumpers. And I do not mean Kevin Love, who is not a 5 by any stretch of the imagination.

I have no clue where Francesca gets this "he's a 4" bit. But then again, I have no clue about a lot about ol' Mikey.

Since Chris left, that time slot has gone way downhill. Still gets good interviews with Girardi, and the like, but it is basically a 'my way or hang up" type of show.

Not for me anymore.

This article mentions what Francesa did. It could be a ruse, or they could be messing with people, or who the hell knows?

Basically, the Lakers aren't locked into K-AT or Okafor no matter what at this point, per source. Intrigued by Mudiay/Russell.
