Yanks Win Again

Yankee pitching continued to gain traction today as Masahiro Tanaka had his second good start in a row. Now, if they could only hit, and perhaps, move Beltran out of the #3 spot in the batting order.  Today's game was like watching a Cards/Giants game from 1968.   The Yanks scored the first of their 2 runs on a balk.  Betances ended up gettting the win, and Miller the save.   They're really staring to roll.  Up next, the Mets.   Glad I'm not home for that zaniness.

Betances was consistently 96-98 today.

Tanaka was consistently 92 as well.

As I have said, Tanaka needs to let it go until it blows.

Anything less than a split would negate the road trip.

Anything better, and it will be interesting.

If Betances and Miller are going to dominate like they have, I'll have to end up saying the decision to let Robertson go was a good one, even factoring in Robertson's dominance so far.

There were two issues with Robertsson, imo:

1) If you're not going to sign him, like Cano, trade him. The refusal to do that puts a ceiling on their upside, and is really an insult to thinking fans.

2) There is something to be said for maintaining and promoting a culture of homegrown players, and right now, that is absent.

I'm fine with letting him go for a pick now that they're actually willing to spend on the draft.

Your second point is highlighted by Cano more so than Robertson, IMO.

So far, from the Yankees point of view, the Miller plus a pick plus a $10,000,000 savings for Robertson trade looks like a winner. In spite of Robertson's start in the Windy City.

And, if that pick ever beats the odds and develops into a productive player considering the draft slot, it will be a really big win.

Dellin was really dealing today. I am surprised he di not start the 9th facing Miggy. Miggy is 0-3 against him, with 3 Ks. He was 2-2 against Miller, going into today. And Betances only threw 18 pitches today.

What happened to Girardi's binder?

Why not both, Mike?

Trading a big veteran at the deadline is a way to take a quantum leap back to the top

Aye, but under the notion that this team will not sell no matter what, a draft pick is nice compensation since they built a strong pen again this season.

Selfishly, I wanted them to keep Robertson since I attended high school and college for him. But I'm glad he got a great deal and is pitching well, especially since the Yankees appear adept at constructing a good pen year in and year out.

More importantly, did you know his wife? ;)

But I hear you it is what it is

Whether to trade or hold an upcoming FA depends on the market for the player at the trade deadline. If you can get a Wheeler for a Beltran, do it. But if the return doesn't offer high upside, I'd be inclined to take the draft pick. I would expect that Cano would have brought a return worth having, but I'm not sure about DRob.

Lawyer, 'fraid not. :-) I think he met his wife while playing in the Cape Cod League. I'm friends with the wife of his younger brother, and we're supposed to go out to eat together in the near future, so I might ask the brother if he has any inside scoops on how it all went down.

The Robertsons are good people though. David donated a lot of time and money when our hometown was ravaged by an EF-4 tornado back in 2011.

*by "how it all went down," I meant the negotiations with Robertson and the Yankees.

Thanks, Mike.

I have no idea what to expect from this series. I mean, logically, one team is probably going to take 2 out of 3, and it's going to be tough to beat Harvey and deGrom. The Yankees are so unpredictable at this point. It's time for Big Mike to pitch like something close to the best pitcher in baseball as some described him in the spring.

Lawyer;

You are right about this series. I can see the Yankees winning 2 of 3, but I cab also see the middle of the lineup struggling against the Mets starters, and the Yankees losing all 3.

This one is really tough. I do not think anyone has a solid read on the Yankees at this point of the season.

@BenBadler: Yankees shorstop Jorge Mateo is an explosive athlete with 80 speed. Leads the minors in steals, should stay there as long as he's healthy.

Excited about this one. Supposedly his glove is good enough to stick at SS.

Just saw a gif of him scoring on Twitter. Holy crap is he fast. Looked like a colorized video of one of those old undercranked filns of Cobb that made him look faster than he probably was. Only it wasn't undercranked.

I saw the same GIF. He looked like he should be lining up as a wide receiver.

The takeover of NYC seems to have been delayed at least a day, LOL.
