Yanks Lose

Bautista is the new Ortiz and they won't throw at him.  Unacceptable. Weak sauce.   Bad effort.   Gardy can't do it alone.

I really hope that Betances doesn't show signs of Girardi's abuse next year.

Robertson, who may or may not be resigned, has pitched 51.1 IP. Betances has pitched 80 IP.

How big an idiot does a manager have to be to not see how f'd up that is?

Cashman had Joba Rules for Torre.

If they are going to keep this incompetent fool, it's time for something similar with Teflon Girardi. And Teflon Long is getting a pass too.

That's largely because they'd shrunken DRob into a 1 inning closer, after he was developed to pitch 2 ip per in the minors.

Betances, on the other hand, is being shrunken down from being a starter. And has been on the two inning plan (which all of our relievers should be on) for the whole time.

He pitched 84 innings last year, and has been over 100 ip in the past.

Then maybe they should make Betances a starter.

Not all innings are the same. High stress innings can take more of a toll.

The are probably saving Robertson's arm for another team.

Betances likes relieving.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I think Klapisch nails this, and Girardi has talked a good game, but has failed the standard he set, which isn't surprising.

I think he over extended Tanaka at times too.

Girardi is right when he says, “You can’t run [Betances] into the ground.” That’s the easy part, repeating bullpen theory. But Betances’ case in complicated by a history of arm trouble — he underwent reconstructive surgery on his elbow in 2009 — and an unusual delivery.

Betances’ arm tends to drag behind the rest of his body, the result of a front (left) shoulder that opens too quickly. One talent evaluator said, “That’s not the way you’d teach a kid to throw.” For now, Betances compensates with incredible arm speed, which, along with his 6-foot-8 frame have made him a hitter’s nightmare. The right-hander’s fastball is averaging 96.5 mph, according to fangraphs.com, good for No. 6 among major league relievers.

Betances sling shots a bit, but there have been tons of guys who've had great careers like that.

And hd didn't have TJ, he had support added in there. So he probably has additional durability.

Also, some of his 80 innings have been 10 pitches or less.

But I do agree about Girardi abusing guys, and think he might have a little with Tanaka, but his Japanese Managers really did him him letting him throw 170 pitches one day then relieve the next.

Yes, about the abuse in Japan, but that, along with the transition from pitching once a week to every 5 days, is exactly why he needed to be handled with extreme care.
