Yankee Crossroads

While the Red Sox prepare to collect on their FA to be, Lester, and perhaps Lackey, who is not a FA to be, the Yanks have a big decision to make of their own.  David Robertson will be a free agent unless they sign him before free agency starts, and if they're not going to do that, they should trade him here at the deadline.   There is almost no chance the Yanks are winning #28 this year, and during years like this they have to get stronger for year's when they can.   That gives them two choices with Robertson, first is re-sign him, the second is trade him, but they have to make that decision now.  They cannot afford to have another Cano situation, where they lost a massive asset for nothing.

True, but it is what it is. They will take on more veteran salary and worry about Robertson at another time.

One year plans don't change despite reality being to the contrary.

The best we can hope for is that the prospects they trade are not their best ones, and what they are traded for have real upside beyond 2014-15.

Matt Tracy has really been pitching well in AAA. Good sized LH starter who got hurt for awhile, but was looking like a great pick a few years ago. Could be another Greene type call up. Doesn't throw as hard, but is lefty and does throw up to 94.

They should just re-sign him. Having Robertson as the closer gives them versatility with other late-inning arms like Betances.

I agree. Though I'd stretch him back out to a two inning guy like he was in the minors and not really designate a closer.

Interesting that Matt Tracy was mentioned. I am hoping that if they trade prospects for "band-aids" here at the deadline, they do not trade any talent greater then a Matt Tracy type.

It would be very disappointing if they traded a Severino for a guy who leaves after the season, even if he's is a "star" who may help them get to the playoffs this year. I agree that winning it all is "highly unlikely", to be charitable.

Also..they do need to make a decision on Robertson. If you do nothing, some team after the season will offer him 4 years, in the $50 million range.

Are the Yankees just going to let him leave for a draft pick?

I'd be disappointed if they trade Severino at all. He's their best pitching prospect since Joba/Hughes, and so far they've done nothing to screw him up.

JR Murphy is probably just getting a rest day this morning and they're probably just giving Romine a day to catch, he had been playing 1B.

So Gardner has a marginally higher WAR than Cano? That aside, although some of us have been supporters, I don't believe anyone saw this upside.

Ir's a little higher now.
