Giants Make No Progress Toward the Playoffs

Sheesh. The defense has been poor for the last 5 quarters of play. And the turnover problem that has existed since the beginning of the season, bit the Giants repeatedly today. 7 seasons in and the Giants are still turning the ball over because the receiver and QB have made separate reads. The Giants can still go on a roll and win the tourney, but if they don't, I think we'll be talking about coaching candidates come January. Go Giants! Please!

Knicks WIN!!!!!!

With all 5 starters contributing terrifically, the Knicks were able to overcome great games by Rose and Boozer to beat the Bulls at the Garden. Ray Felton continued to blossom into the next great Knick PG. The effort, if not the technique, was there on D. They are a pleasure to watch once more. Go Knicks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Giants!

Sheesh, that was weird yesterday. Still, I believe it can all be cleaned up and if the Giants make the playoffs, they will have a real shot. The season isn't over, unless they let it be. I hope they can come back from yesterday's debacle. Go Giants!

Knicks Face Heat

After a decade of no big games at the Garden, the Knicks have their second big game of the week there tonight. The Heat come to town, featuring, Wade, Bosh and the man who not only spurned the Knicks, but spurned this blog as well. Obviously, it remains a shame that he did not come to New York, but you have to respect the way the Knicks have gotten after it, anyway. Amar'e has elevated his game to an elite level, and surprisingly, so has Raymond Felton. Felton has been great and has alleviated the pressure on the front office to use trade chips and cap space to go get Chris Paul. They can win with Felton. They do need a back-up PG; however, but they should only be looking in the D-league or Europe to find one. They don't need to use use their chips or space on bench players. Likewise, though Camby would be a nice fit, they should be looking for a defense-first big in the Rambis/Iavaronni mold, and that shouldn't cost much. They Knicks are really improving, and it will be interesting to see if they go get Carmello or stand pat till July. Go Knicks!

Yanks Get Feleciano

What number loogy is this for the oughts teams? I guess he will be fine if he can get out Ortiz, Gonzalez and Crawford, but like all the other loogies, he will end up pitching against right handed hitters and get smoked. You have to have a top set up corp to afford and manage a loogy properly. I'm not sure that is what we have yet. Go Yanks!

Rangers Beat Pens

While the Knicks were losing a heartbreaker but team maker to the Celts, the Rangers skated into Pittsburgh and beat the Pens, 4-1. Unfortunately, the Rangers lost Ryan Callahan to a broken hand on a blocked shot in the first. Fortunately though, Christenson, Frolov, Anisimov and Boyle scored in the third to give the Rangers a big, needed win. Boyle is having a breakout season, and, I'm enjoying my crow! Go Rangers!

Knicks Getting Close

The Knicks just came very close to beating the Celtics. At times, during the game, the Knicks made the Celts look old. Though it is too bad that they lost, they need to find encouragement and confidence in how close it was - just like the Giants did when they played the undefeated Pats at the end of the `07 season. They are a team that's on the way up and I really do believe Carmelo would be a perfect fit with Felton, Amar'e and whoever stays. They play the Heat on Friday. Go Knicks!

What Now?

In a bit of a surprise, Cliff Lee has spurned the Yankees to return to the Phillies. Oddness. Anyway, this leaves the Yanks short in the rotation. It's really important that they don't blow up the farm and trade guys like Montero, Betances, Banuelos or Sanchez to try bandage the rotation. Betances and Banuelos will be ready soon enough, and bats like Montero and Sanchez just don't come along very often. We'll see what happens.

Giants Roll

In an impressive show of mental toughness and after a shaky start, the Giants settled down and dominated the Vikings last night. Jacobs and Bradshaw were dynamite, and the DL is really rounding into championship form. Even Keith Bullock made a play! If they can limit their turnovers, the sky is the limit for this group of Giants. Go GMen!

Yanks Close Martin?

Reports are coming in that the Yankees and Russell Martin are close to a deal. Obviously, the Yanks are just looking to scotchguard the position whil Jesus Montero gets adjusted. It would seem they have soured some on Cervelli, though. Still waiting to hear on Lee...

UPDATE: He signed a 1 year deal.

Whither Carmelo?

As the Knicks continued to roll today, visiting player Carmelo Anthony drew as many cheers as the Knicks did. Anthony has made it clear that he really wants to be a Knick and will only sign an extension with them. The question now is, do the Knicks trade for him or wait? Anthony has been a volume player and been inefficient and there's no real reason to believe he'll be any better as a Knick, but somehow, I feel he will. I think the emergence of Raymond Felton has obviated the need for CP3, and with the way both he and Amar'e have flourished in the system, I think a happy Carmelo would, too. What do you think?

How 'Bout Them Knicks?

The Knicks who have won 11 out of their last 12 have got to be one of the big surprises in the league this year. Amar'e has been franchisey, but the big surprise for us has got to be Raymond Felton. This is the D'Antoni/PG effect that we have been hoping to see. Gallo is coming along nicely and Fields, Chandler and a few others are really getting it done. Turiaf has shown tremendous heart, too. It's fun to be a Knick fan again! Go Knicks!

Yanks Re-Up Jeter

The manufactured drama of the inevitable is over. Jeter will retire as a Yank as he has earned the right to do. Terms shouldn't effect any other business over the life of the deal. Now go get Lee!

Yanks Re-Sign Mo

The Yanks and Mo Rivera have agreed on a new two year deal. In other news, they have also, apparently, upped their offer for Derek Jeter. That will probably get done before Christmas. The Cliff Lee talks should heat up by the Winter Meetings, which begin on the 6th.
